Program and levels

Our Portuguese program is divided in 6 levels, with reference to the “Common European Framework of Reference (CEFRL): Learning, Teaching, Assessment” (see below). The Basic levels can be taken in 4 to 6 modules, the Intermediate and Advanced levels have 6 to 8 modules each. Each module has a total of 15 hours, so a student takes 60 to 90 hours in the Basic modules and 90 to 240 hours in the Intermediate and Advanced modules. The exact duration of each level will vary according to students individual characteristics, such as mother tongue, personality, learning strategies, motivation and so one.

Common European f Program and levels

For Spanish speakers we keep the same structure of the course, but we have developed specific material, more complex and challenging for written, reading and oral tasks.

For tourists longing to acquire introductory language skills for traveling, we offer a specific module. It consists of real life situations a tourist usually faces, such as ordering food in a restaurant, asking for information and directions, introducing themselves, buying tickets or souvenirs and using transportation and other services.

TLC also offers preparatory courses for the CELPE-bras, the only official and recognized diploma of Brazilian Portuguese as a foreign language.

Upon request we also offer business courses or group courses for specific purposes.

Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR): Learning, Teaching, Assessment

Developed through a process of scientific research and wide consultation, this document provides a practical tool for setting clear standards to be attained at successive stages of learning and for evaluating outcomes in an internationally comparable manner. It is the result of extensive research and ongoing work on communicative objectives. The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) provides a basis for the mutual recognition of language qualifications, thus facilitating educational and occupational mobility. It is increasingly used in the reform of national curricula and by international consortia for the comparison of language certificates.
