I undertook a four week course with TLC, and I was extremely happy with the course that was prepared for me. Because my Portuguese was already reasonably advanced, I took individual lessons, which can be quite intense, but TLC took great care to prepare varied and interesting classes, and I had three different teachers, each engaging and enthusiastic. My Portuguese progressed significantly, and I would have no hesitation in highly recommending the course to anyone.

I studied at The Language Club on two separate occasions during my stays in Florianópolis in 2010 & 2011. The school is located in one of the most scenic and well-placed neighborhoods in the city: Lagoa da Conceição, which is near some of the best beaches on the island (Mole & Joaquina) without being too far from the Downtown/Beira-mar districts. The neighborhood itself offers plenty of activities to enjoy during the day or night when you have a break from your studies.

The school is very well organized and professionally run (which may not always be the case with some of their competitors in Floripa). I would feel comfortable reserving class time with them, even from abroad, as all of their professors are well trained and focused on assisting with the needs of every individual student. The course work that they provide is engaging, diverse, and up to date. With the help of my professora Rosane, I was able to improve upon my moderate language skills and reach an advanced level of proficiency which I now am able to use professionally in the USA. I was also able to sucessfully prepare and qualify for certification by passing the CELPE proficiency examination in large part due to the tireless assistance of the school.

As someone who has studied Portuguese at other schools in Florianópolis, I would highly recommend TLC due to their organization and ability to engage all individuals, whether they are beginning their studies or may already be at an advanced level of Portuguese.

“I am 33 years on, and although I’m originally from New Zealand, I’ve been living & working the last 11 years of my life in London. I decided that I wanted to commence learning Portuguese. I had been to Florianopolis once before, and had fallen in love with the place. So, moving there was an easy choice to make, choosing a decent language course was the hard part.

For many weeks I searched the internet, did a lot of research & emailed many of the language schools. I finally decided on one, located reasonably close to downtown/Centro. This location was certainly not ideal. Moreover, the school made a lot of assurances, which they did not follow through with. Although their teachers were nice, the course structure was all over the place, and it didn’t really cater for the individual. So, I studied there for 2 weeks. But, thankfully, during this time, I found out about the Language Club.

I visited them twice asking many questions about their school. It became evident within the first visit, how both professional & welcoming they were. They really focused on you; your needs, your aims, your individual level, and they would work at whatever speed worked best for you, and your individual learning ability. The school & the classes are modern, clean and are airconditioned. The teachers were professional, very skilled, friendly & always ready to help out in whatever way they could. More importantly, they were extremely well organised & their course work was very intelligently structured. I ended up studying at the Language Club for 8 weeks. And I would have stayed for longer if I could.

The location of the school is excellent. It’s in central Lagoa de Conceicao, very close to the shops, minutes from the lake. Located next to the lake, the area is also home to many bars & restuarants, and is within easy reach to many of Florianopolis’s best beaches. And weather you’re taking public transport, taxi’s, or just hiring a car, it is easy to get everywhere from this area.

I know people often read these testimonials & are cautious, as I have always been in the past. But without question, I would highly recommend the Language Club to anyone, whatever level you’re at. And when you get there, you’ll realise why! In my experience, this is the best language school in Florianopolis.”

I studied at TLC three weeks and I chose a very intensive course. The team was from the beginning on very helpful to offer me appropriate lectures. As I prepared a presentation it was very helpful to me that the school was so well equipped. The free Internet access and also the technical equipment like projectors I was highly pleased to have during classes. I had great fun in classes, as the teachers also gave insights into, as most would say, “typical cultures” of Brazil. I really enjoyed the classes listening and working with the lyrics of Forró and Samba. We had lots of fun, when went out to some outdoor-adventures and there was plenty of possibility to practice what I have learned in the course.

The teachers worked perfectly together and they always kept me working on my mistakes so that at the end I was really happy having improved my Portuguese so fast. I fully recommend TLC to improve your Portuguese effectively and having fun while studying.

I had a great 4-month course of individual classes at TLC, that helped me to understand my uni work better, improved both my speaking and comprehension skills. The way they teach at TLC is very diversified, involving audio-visual elements as well as the traditional “working with texts”. I managed to prepare myself very efficiently for the CelpeBras exam, which is a kind of TOEFL for Brasil.

The classes are very punctual, the teachers are very friendly and well prepared and the little café in the school is inviting to have a coffee while working on some unfinished homework.

The most enjoyable language school I have been to. I can only recommend it to everyone that wants to learn Portuguese in the twinking of an eye.
